Slovenian research centres and technology parks
Slovenia has a dynamic research and innovation infrastructure that supports the development of science, technology and entrepreneurship. Research centres and technology parks are a key part of this infrastructure, driving the country's economic and technological progress.
Research centres in Slovenia work in a wide range of scientific and technological disciplines. Among the most important are:
- The Jožef Stefan Institute (Institut Jožef Stefan – IJS) is the largest research institute in Slovenia, covering the fields of natural sciences, engineering and biotechnology,
- Institute of Chemistry (Kemijski inštitut) and
- National Institute of Biology (Nacionalni inštitut za biologijo).
Slovenian research centres work closely with universities, industry and international research institutions to put knowledge and innovation into practice. This cooperation is crucial to the success in terms of accessing European funds and winning European projects.
Technology parks are hubs for the development of innovative and start-up companies. The most well-known are the Ljubljana Technology Park and the Pomurje Technological Park, which provide support to companies in the form of incubation, mentoring, financing, and networking with academia and industry. Technology parks are designed to facilitate the rapid growth and development of high-tech companies, which helps create jobs and economic growth.
